Organizing Tip of the Day: Are you Chronically Disorganized?

Posted by:

Many people make jokes about being a “hoarder,” but the reality is most people do not fall into that category.  However, hoarding is a very serious disorder that can affect family members and personal relationships as well as lead to unhealthy living conditions.  One of my favorite resources as a Professional Organizer is the Institute for Challenging Disorganization, which focuses on helping people who are chronically disorganized.  On this site you can find great fact sheets and resources to identify your ...

Posted by:

I really enjoyed this article from Apartmenttherapy.com about 6 Things All Impossibly Organized People Do.  I especially liked number two, “Write Stuff Down”.  Many of my clients try to keep their calendars and to do lists in their heads.  Getting it down on a piece of paper or an electronic device can alleviate the need to replay the lists in your head constantly.  Using the the calendar and the list together to plan out how you are going to accomplish ...

Posted by:

I saw this ad for inexpensive bins at Walmart and loved that by using a printer, glue and some scrapbook paper the bins were transformed from ordinary to pretty with clearly labeled tags.  Remember you don’t have to spend a lot to have attractive and functional storage.  Use what you already have sitting around the house and you can transform a space.

Organizing Tip of the Day: Artkive your Children’s Artwork

Posted by:

Fellow Livable Solutions Professional Organizer Heather Collins discovered this amazing app we have started using with our clients.  It is called Artkive and it will completely change the way you save your children’s artwork, school projects and other keepsakes.  Instead of keeping the physical object you download the app (Artkive App), take a picture, assign it to the child, write a description and store it.  At the end of the year you can send off the pictures you want ...

Organizing Tip of the Day: Organize the Japanese Way

Posted by:

One of my favorite books of 2015 was Marie Kondo’s book, “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up:  The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing.”  It was one of the most ground-breaking books about organizing that I had read in over 10 years.  As you are looking for inspiration in the New Year I would suggest finding a copy of this book to read.  You will look at the way you organize objects in a whole new way. Instead of focusing on ...
